Centre of Excellence for Disability Sports
Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh

Collage Design, in collaboration with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, developed the concept and Detailed Project Report for the Gwalior Centre of Excellence for Disability Sports (COEDS). The design approach involves a meticulous analysis of sports disciplines, benchmarked against international standards, ensuring that the Centre becomes a training facility and event venue for future Paralympians.

More than a Sports Complex, this avant-garde facility is a testament to groundbreaking architecture that goes beyond boundaries. The expansive Multi-Sport Complex comprises 20 Indoor and Outdoor Sports facilities. The design team worked closely with Athletes, Administrators and Research Scholars to develop this fully accessible Centre with the ability to train in and host multiple sports. It caters to the specific challenges of differently-abled sports enthusiasts, and is equipped with cutting-edge facilities ranging from Multipurpose Halls to specialised arenas for sports like Badminton, Wheelchair Football, and Swimming. The Sports Science Centre includes an injury clinic and facilities to maintain a systematic recording of fitness and skill data across all age groups for continual performance enhancement. The Residential Complex within the campus fosters an inclusive living environment for sports persons, coaches and essential staff.

The project’s scope is vast, targeting various disability categories such as locomotor disability, hearing impairment, blindness/low vision, mental impairment and autism. By offering tailored facilities, COEDS aspires to create an environment where athletes of all abilities can thrive. It is an inclusive and innovative space where architecture meets empowerment.
