Sports Infrastructure Masterplan
Maldives

The Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment embarked on multiple Sports Infrastructure developments across the Republic of Maldives with the primary aim to equip athletes to compete on the national and international stage. Collage Design was assigned to develop these facilities to be at par with the best in the industry worldwide. Given the ecological sensitivity of the islands, the designs created by us adhere to the principles of Environmental Sustainability.

Maldives currently has some of the fastest athletes in South Asia and to enhance their training, Synthetic Tracks across 4 locations have been developed as per World Athletics Guidelines. The new Tracks incorporate green spaces within the area for exercise and community events. We also designed the Galolhu National Football Stadium in Male. Football being the national sport of Maldives, this International Standard Stadium enables competitions and provides a training ground for the National Team. Commercial Spaces have been incorporated within the Stadium to divert revenue to the development of football. A Double Bowl system of Seating has been designed and the Masterplan also includes a Residential Block for players.

Three other major projects under the Masterplan involved the creation of separate Basketball, Volleyball and Table Tennis Centres in Male. Enjoying a scenic view of the Southern Harbour, a Three Court Layout for matches and practice as prescribed by FIBA was designed for the National Basketball Centre, along with commercial spaces. To improve Maldives Ranking in the International Arena, the National Volleyball Centre was created to enable coaching and practice. Adjacent to this, the National Table Tennis Centre was designed, as it is considered the most successful sport played in Maldives. It is also largely a women dominated sport. All three of these facilities come with additional features such as Gymnasium, Spectator Seating, Locker Rooms; Coach Room, Admin offices and Equipment storage spaces.
