Charkop Pond Beautification, Mumbai
Maharashtra

The historic Charkop Pond or the Dingeshwar Talao in Borivali had been lying in misuse for many years. Its location close to the wetlands of the creek, often led to plastic and other pollutants encroaching the pond during high tide. This in turn was posing a huge threat to the precious mangroves in the area. To curb this, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has planned to clean and beautify the pond and its surrounding area. This would include an entrance gate, musical fountains, jogging tracks, footpaths, an outdoor gym, play areas, wooden bridges and benches, amphitheatre, a gallery for visitors, and a security wall around the pond. A communal platform is also planned for use during festivals throughout the year. The beautification of the pond will not only create a safe and vibrant public space, it will simultaneously preserve the natural beauty of the pond and the surrounding mangroves.
