The Meghalaya Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (MIDFC) has proposed a Pedestrian Skywalk Deck at Mawkdok Dympep Valley. Popular as a holiday retreat, the place is known for offering one of the highest levels of rainfall in the world. Located in the East Khasi Hills district, it is also one of the highest places in Meghalaya. The proposed Glass Bridge has been conceived to provide a captivating viewpoint to the tourists that throng that area.
The Architectural Program by Collage Design has been inspired by other popular Skywalks such as the ones in the Grand Canyon and the Glacier Skywalk in the Canadian Rockies. It will make use of an approximately 25m long cantilever Viewing Deck with an End Glass Overlook. Amenities for the tourists around the skywalk will include a Restaurants and Retail spaces. Provision for Parking is integral to the plan as the location falls on the busy Cherrapunjee – Shillong road. Additionally, as the project falls in a seismic zone, vertical earthquake shaking effect has been taken into account in the design.
